Premiere: 1st West-Eastern Book Salon

It was an very special cultural event: For the first time, a quarter of a century after the fall of the Berlin Wall, publishing houses from the East and West of Europe came to together to promote children’s literature. On 16 June 2014, the Literary Colloquium Berlin (LCB) did showcase the thriving children’s book scene of central and eastern Europe alongside current productions from German publishers.

The first West-Eastern Book Salon offered experts a professional insight into the literary creations of children’s writers and illustrators from central and eastern Europe, but also provided opportunities and inspiration for collaboration across borders in special events. For lay visitors, the publishing houses that came together in the LCB opened up new dimensions in the educational task of imparting the world of ideas, feelings and relationships through books.
